Like all new bloggers I wondered how to start!

I decided to begin by introducing myself and my small business, and to give you a brief insight into what the last few years have been like setting up a small business from scratch. There have been many highs and some lows for sure, but I have learned more in the last few years than I ever thought possible!

I have always been in love with Spanish baby products from clothes to furniture and everything in between! My passion grew when I had my own daughter, and by then quality and safety became as important as style. I always found it difficult to source the products I loved in the UK, and often visited Spain to satisfy my obsession! I actually visited a shop in Fuengirola and begged the shop owner to ship a cot to me in the UK, but he couldn't do it, and that was when I started to think I could turn my passion into a business.

I spent a lot of time thoroughly reasearching the market, and I carefully considered what products I wanted to sell. I am really fussy and particular, so they had to tick all the boxes!

Casa bebé which means 'baby and home' in Spanish officially opened it's doors on the 1st of September 2012. We have a shop in Paisley, near Glasgow in Scotland, and a website www.casabebe.co.uk. We stock two brands of baby furniture Alondra and Micuna, and we also stock a wide range of baby accessories and homeware by Sia Home Fashion.

The image above of our shop front was taken on the day we opened, I will share more up to date photos as I go along! It's funny to look back as I always think the shop looked quite bare, it's amazing how it has changed and evolved over the last few years!

As well as supplying customers with unique products, my number one priority was to provide the best possible customer service. This was and still is so important to me. I've had far too many bad experiences in the past when the service I have received has been well below the standard I would expect and it has been so frustrating! Customers always provide feedback and reviews complementing us on the service we have provided especially with regards to more complex orders like nursery furniture. It's a busy enough time when you are pregnant with a baby, without having to worry about something like that! I still personally oversee each and every order we receive and that's the way I like it!

By far the most difficult experience we had to overcome was when a major fire ripped through the building adjacent to our boutique less than six months after we opened. I was devastated as you can imagine! I do however like to see the positives in every situation, and it really did make me more resilient, it also made me realise just how much I loved what I was doing and that I must never take it for granted. It also made me realise the importance of having a good website! Our website sales allowed us to continue trading as we had to close the shop for over a month.

Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength. I have learned so much and I will share some of this as I go along with my blog! Things like the importance of having an online presence, social media, networking, brand awareness and lots more! One particular highlight for me was winning an award last year for 'Most promising new entrepreneur' at the Invest in Renfrewshire Awards Ceremony. It was lovely to be recognised locally, and it makes you feel like your hard work is paying off!
